Udaipur itinerary day 1
Take an art class
Taking an art class is the number one thing to do on a Udaipur trip for a few reasons:
1. Drawing and colouring are scientifically known as calming activities.
2 Let’s be honest, it is not something you will do very often during your travels.
3. What could be more fun than trying your hand at traditional Indian paintings of pretty images of elephants, horses and camels? You will see these types of paintings plastered in every nook and cranny around Udaipur.
Art classes typically last 2 hours. You have the choice to paint on paper or silk. All the materials are included in the price. There are many shops in Udaipur offering these classes. Prices range from 150-250 Rupees ($2.11 – $3.52) per hour. However, we found a class at Art Work Home that offered classes for 300 Rupees ($4.22) for two hours. We fully recommend this art class. Our tutor, Kailash Jinger, is a minor celebrity in Udaipur! He painted some of the intricate designs in the city palace.
Spend the rest of the day at a rooftop pool
Seek out one of the many rooftop pools that overlook Pichola Lake. Relax the day away with amazing views and a refreshing pool to dip in and out of when the heat becomes too much. We spent the full day at a pool! A pool is a perfect way to take a break from the scorching summer heat of India from April to July. We paid 300 Rupees ($4.22) each to use a hotel pool for a full day.
Udaipur itinerary – day 2
Wander the city palace
A Udaipur trip wouldn’t be complete without a sneak peek into the stunning palace. The city palace dates to 1553 and took nearly 400 years to build. The palace is full of colourful and intricate designs. You will feel like royalty wandering around this historic palace. There are plenty of doorways and archways that make for some great photo opportunities. There is also a nice view of the city below. Take some time to wander around the grounds and sit and relax for a while. The cost to enter the palace grounds is just 30 Rupees ($0.42). If you want to learn more about the palace, you can opt to go inside the city palace museum for 200 Rupees ($2.82).
Take a tea break at a lake-side restaurant
Many eateries and cafes are dotted along the lake. They are perfect for taking a mid-day break or even catching up on some admin tasks. Plus, what could beat a cup of tea and a cake that overlooks a romantic lake? We spent hours in a café called Jheels. This café is relatively cheap compared to the others and the food and drinks are of high quality. You can sit downstairs in an AC room on top of the lake or outside upstairs which overlooks the lake with great views. You can even see Jag Mandir in the near distance too, the place where Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married in 2010.
Watch the sunset at Manji Ka Ghat Park
Finally, this Udaipur itinerary wouldn’t be complete without watching the sunset over Manji Ka Ghat! Manji Ka Ghat is centrally located on a peninsula with a small garden. It’s a popular spot to watch the sunset over India’s little Venice; Udaipur. Watch the sun go down over the princess palaces as the sun glistens lightly over Pichola Lake. We were told by a local that this sunset spot used to be popular with foreign tourists, but more and more locals are starting to visit the area. You will see children splashing around in this popular lake whilst their parents watch nearby. It’s the perfect way to end your day and perfect for those who like to capture romantic sunset moments.
These are just a few of the most relaxing things to do in Udaipur. If you’re looking for more things to do, how to get to Udaipur or the best time to visit, make sure to check out this Udaipur guide.

India seems to have so many cool spots! I haven’t heard of this place but it looks like it’s got a lot of relaxing things to do
Sure is a nice place. It is the perfect place to end a trip in India.
Katie, Udaipur looks so lovely and tranquill. These are awesome ideas too, to help folk think a bit differently about things to do.
Thanks a lot for your comment 🙂 By the end of the trip we were tired of seeking out temples and walking around in the 43 degree heat, so we needed to take a little break and find relaxing things to do.
Taking an art class sound so cool! I can totally imagine myself coloring mandalas in a sunny peaceful corner of a studio 🙂 Learning new skills – like how to paint on silk – on the road is always a precious experience.
It was something different for sure 🙂 we loved it. It was a nice relaxing break from the touristy stuff.
Wow I would love to take an art class in india? What did you create? Also those roof top pools look wonderfully relaxing right now <3
It was one of our highlights 🙂 we both painted an elephant. It turned out much better than we expected too.
